Ensign was using langola's 2nd, which I also played on for a night or two. I'm surprised you guys didn't notice the decline in playing ability when I was playing :P

The new update has taken all strategy out of gvg. I just don't get what Izzy is thinking. I read that he says that players now aren't capable of handling VoD so that's why it was removed. It might as well be ha at the flag stand. I'm not sure who Izzy is listening to but I've got a good idea, amazing how this fits rawr's style so well isn't it. Please Izzy don't nerf gvg, ppl can't get better if they are not allowed to learn, change back to old Vod go go go.

Not really. rawr are good, in fact the best at exploiting the mechanics of guild wars, as they have proved time and time again with every update that nerfs/buffs anything.

At least previously, you could send out a split team to gank their base, in hopes that you could start chopping up NPCs and force them to either retreat completely or only split off half their team so that you could try to subsequently force them out.

NPCs in this new format just provide a bit more firepower to a team being pushed into base, except that they die fast and thus are pretty worthless.

This update was terrible.

By removing the need for splitting and promoting this 8v8 BS at the stand, all anet did was pave the way for scrubs to rape face with gay builds like RaO ranger + smiter teams, hexway, dervsmite, etc... PvP farming anyone? >.>

I admit that the previous version of VoD was flawed, but at least people had to have some skill/brains to win in that meta. Overpowered gimmicky 8v8 team builds don't take brains or skill at all.

Hexway and derv smite aren't popular right now. Instead, its smiteshit and condition pressure builds (which actually do take a bit of skill to run effectively). The RaO build needs to be fixed, but it's not impossible to beat. Splitting still works early on if you know they are using a gimmick 8v8 build, before the lord gets health from boosts.

Again, the main problem can be pinned onto the RaO smite gimmick. Fix that build, and there isn't anything ridiculous.

After having played with the new rules for a bit, I have to say I'm not happy with this VoD at all. GvG is becoming a total 8v8 slugfest and even though I am admittedly not too fond of splitting and dedicated split builds, this pure 8v8 thing is worse.

If you're under pressure it's much harder now to get back into the game by splitting off. The split team can do very little of consequence. In the end the lord stands alone anyway, so all the NPCs in the base mean nothing at all. There is furthermore very little threat that a split will manage to kill the lord in the base while the enemy is not looking. The NPCs still provide some static defense, the bodyguard has to be taken out first, the knights also, to relieve pressure, and then the lord has his protection skill as well as morale-boosted health. Plenty of time for a rit to wander back home and cast some weapon spells.
In the mean time, your stand team gets DPed out.

The 8v8 meta is fine when you play 'balanced vs balanced', but from what I have seen now the meta is rapidly changing into gimmick plays; flat-out spike builds and thumper/smite mashfests complete with heroes, all farming champs.

As with most updates the week to two weeks after have always been fun, people trying new things, pretty much no set builds out there yet besides the same old boring balanced. I do really like the incendiary arrows buff, pressure/condition spread to a whole new level.

Relating to VOD someone enlighten me as to what's the difference between farming NPC's in the old VOD, and farming the guild lord now? Builds are not too stale atm but that will change, what won't change is the total linear feel to GvG as a result to the current VOD. NPC's NEED to matter in my OP, just not matter as much as they did in the past.

Because if your team got its back broken at stand and you had to retreat to base, you still had a chance.

Before it was Inept/smite farming npc's, now you can run 2x frontline 3xsmite, 2 monks and still do more dmg to the guild lord vs most other builds

Condition pressure is off the wall currently, but I think that loses to smites as well because of smite condition. I obs'd a match where hexway just got shat on by smiteway, which was pure comedy to watch.

I really dislike the 28 minute tie breaker though. We lost a match recently because despite the fact that our GL was at 66% and theirs was at about 40% with a DW, our GL had taken more damage as a result of us trying to out pressure their team as a whole while they had gone straight for our GL in the beginning.

We had pretty much smashed out their monks and were able to go to town on their lord while powerhealing and protting our own.

It doesn't seem right that the match should go to another team because of a seriously stupid condition.

Now mitch we only ran ranger spike to farm these shitways not my fault it can beat condition pressure as well even if our orders necro kills himself.
